In professional translation, speed and deadline are two important issues. The ability of the professional translation to turn in a project faster and within the deadline makes it the ultimate choice – even if it costs more than machine translation or other translation service currently available online. Human translation has this sole advantage of securing a quality standard that’s higher than the others. If you add that up to reliability when it comes to meeting deadlines, marketers would not have to look to the other side. That means more projects for translation service providers.
Yes, human translation cannot contest the speed of machine translation. Then again, marketers like us who are serious about expansion would care less for instant results that are not accurate. We’d still much prefer setting out a deadline for a translation service with an assurance that we’ll get quality results on or before that deadline is up. Oftentimes, it is enough that we can have the translated document when we need it rather than having it earlier but flawed.
Speedy translation also means more work for translators. If they are able to finish a project in time, they can easily move on to work out the next. However, since we are talking about human beings doing the translation in professional translation, we’ll have to consider some limitations. On the average, a translator can finish about 2000 to 2500 words in every eight-hour working day. If you delegate a 10000-word document to a single translator, therefore, you will have to wait for four or five days before the job is completed.
As I’ve said, that amount of waiting does not matter to us if we can get the quality of work expected of human translation. The quality of translation service can make or break our business. That’s why we cannot sacrifice it for anything. Still, any marketer would want to have the project done as soon as it is possible because we don’t want to get the document at a time when we no longer need it. That would be completely senseless.
The trick for a pleasant working atmosphere all around is for marketers and professional translation service providers to communicate properly. Before the project is handed out, there must be an understanding as to when it will be finished. With both parties agreeing to a realistic deadline, the translator would be comfortably working on the document while the client is waiting.
